Cedar Key Rendezvous

Friday Oct 1 – Sun Oct 3 2021

Faraway Inn is waiting to book open rooms for our 2021 adventure. Shelly and her team will take good care of us! Many of us booked our rooms before we left last year but there’s still room at the Inn. Bikes and kayaks are available for guest use. For those not familiar with the Inn, it’s directly on the Gulf, and all rooms have microfridges, coffee makers, cups, etc. Check out the website, www.farawayinn.com to see types of accommodations, amenities, etc. The open pavilion offers spectacular sunsets, and the Inn is pet-friendly. You can reserve online, or call the Inn.

A typical schedule is as follows:

Friday Evening: Dinner at Captain Tony’s at 6pm
Saturday: Breakfast in your room or at a local establishment. Lunch on your own. Boating, Fishing or Touring the Town during the day. Saturday Evening Dinner is at the Gulf Front Pavillion at Faraway. They have grills to use. Everyone is to bring your own protein and a dish to share… from appetizers to desserts. Social Hour begins around 5pm.
Sunday: Breakfast in your room or at a local establishment then check out by 11am.

Friday Evening Dinner: Captain Tony’s (famous clam chowder) is open Friday and Saturday from 11:00am to 8pm. We’ve typically gathered as a group there on Friday night. For those of you who have not been to Tony’s you won’t want to miss this fabulous dining experience. Since this is a small place, we will need to make a reservation for our group. So please let me know if you plan to dine with us on Friday night Oct 1 at Tony’s. To learn more about this award winning establishment visit their website to review the menu, www.tonyschowder.com

A note from Commodore Darryl

At the previous meeting held at Vice Commodore Tom Keith’s Tiki Bar, a vote was held concerning the December Porch-Fest. Palatka Yacht Club will be participating in this event at the Grand Gables Inn, 603 Emmett St, Palatka. We last did this event two years ago and it was definitely a good time.

Keep cool, Cats and Kitties. Have a safe and sane Fourth of July and we will catch you all on the flipside of the platter…!

PYC Mission Statement

Date of Origin: February 11, 1976

The objectives of the Palatka Yacht Club shall be to promote good fellowship and cooperation among its members, the sport of yachting, safety afloat, and techniques of good seamanship.

Club members usually gather on the third Saturday of each month for dinner. Exceptions to the third Saturday evolve around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We try to have a monthly boating adventure; however, the weather in December and January may prevent boating. Our calendar tab above includes our proposed boating adventures, which are very much subject to change.

Unless the Commodore decides otherwise, the principal meeting of the membership is in November to elect officers, who assume their duties in January at the change of command ceremony. Generally, the slate of officers will be announced at the October dinner gathering.

Annually, the club participates in the organization of the Mug Race—the world’s longest river race, which is open to sailboats of all sizes. This year (2018) will be the 65th running of the race. 110_1032

Several members of the St. Johns Yacht Club in Palatka, the predecessor to the Palatka Yacht Club, decided to start this very unique race.

Periodically, we also offer a small boating refresher course in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
